Core (Mandatory)
Old Testament Survey
Explore the foundations of the Old Testament and discover how its people, events and themes form part of God’s unfolding redemptive story. Journey through the Law, Historical Books, Wisdom Literature and the Prophets while developing a stronger understanding of God’s character, covenant faithfulness and purposes for humanity.
Discover how the Old Testament points forward to Christ and provides an essential foundation for understanding the New Testament.
New Testament Survey
Journey through the New Testament and develop a deeper understanding of its historical setting, individual books and central message of Jesus Christ. Explore the Gospels, the beginnings of the Church and the letters of the apostles while developing skills to understand biblical texts in context, interpret Scripture faithfully and connect its message with Christian life and ministry.
Authority & Authenticity of the Bible
Explore why the Bible can be trusted as the authoritative foundation for Christian faith and life. This subject examines how God has revealed Himself through Scripture and explores the inspiration, formation, preservation and reliability of the biblical text.

Learners explore how the Bible was formed and transmitted across generations, including the Old and New Testament canon, manuscript evidence, textual criticism and archaeological and historical support for Scripture. The subject also considers challenges to biblical authority and equips learners to approach questions about the Bible with understanding and confidence.

More than understanding why Scripture can be trusted, learners consider how its authority shapes Christian belief, ethical decision-making, discipleship and everyday life. The subject encourages learners to engage with Scripture faithfully, apply its truth and develop a life increasingly shaped by the Word of God.
Electives (Choose 6)
Group A
Personal Management & Biblical Healing
Develop practical and biblical foundations for managing your personal life, wellbeing and ministry for long-term health and effectiveness. Explore personal design, calling, time and financial management, relationships, conflict, stress, emotional and physical wellbeing, biblical healing and healthy boundaries. You’ll learn how greater self-awareness, spiritual disciplines and wise stewardship can support personal growth and sustainable ministry.
Hermeneutics & Public Speaking
Learn how to understand Scripture accurately and communicate biblical truth with clarity and confidence. Develop practical skills in biblical interpretation, considering historical, literary and theological context before moving from meaning to contemporary application. You’ll also develop skills for structuring, teaching and communicating biblical truth effectively in ministry settings.
Evangelism & Outreach
Develop the confidence and understanding to communicate the Christian faith clearly, respectfully and faithfully in today’s cultural context. Explore the biblical foundations of evangelism, the central message of the gospel and practical approaches to explaining Christian beliefs and sharing faith with people of different ages and backgrounds.
Church History & CRC Distinctives
Discover the story of the Christian Church from its New Testament beginnings through the major movements, challenges, revivals and developments that have shaped Christianity today. Explore the early Church, creeds and councils, the Reformation, evangelical and Pentecostal movements, Christianity in Australia and the history and distinctives of CRC Churches International.
Group B
New Creation, Faith & Healing
New Creation, Faith & Healing helps learners develop a deeper understanding of their identity and life in Christ and equips them to explain foundational Christian beliefs with clarity and confidence. Learners explore what it means to become a new creation, including justification, forgiveness, righteousness, regeneration and the believer’s standing and state—what God has accomplished through Christ and how that new identity is progressively lived out. The subject also explores the work of the Holy Spirit, including baptism with the Holy Spirit, walking in the Spirit, renewing the mind and applying Scripture to everyday Christian life.

Learners then examine the nature, source and development of faith and explore the biblical foundations of divine healing, including Christ’s ministry of healing, prayer, the role of faith and the importance of wisdom and pastoral sensitivity when ministering to others. Throughout the subject, learners are encouraged not only to understand these beliefs personally, but to communicate them in language that is clear, respectful and accessible to people from different backgrounds. This directly supports NAT11236008 – Explain Own Beliefs to Others, developing learners’ confidence to articulate what they believe, explain the biblical basis for those beliefs and share their faith thoughtfully in everyday conversations and ministry contexts.
Missions
Explore the biblical foundations and practical realities of local and global mission. You’ll develop an understanding of God’s mission in the world, cross-cultural ministry, cultural humility and the role of the local church in global mission. You’ll also develop practical skills for preparing and leading mission teams, navigating cultural differences, managing team dynamics and risk, and reflecting on mission experiences for ongoing ministry and personal formation.
Small Groups
Learn how to build, lead and strengthen healthy small groups within the life of the local church. Explore biblical foundations for community and relational discipleship alongside practical skills in planning ministry activities, facilitating meetings and discussions, building healthy relationships, navigating group dynamics, providing appropriate pastoral care and developing others.
Preaching & Homiletics
Develop the biblical, practical and communication skills required to prepare and preach effective sermons. You’ll learn how to move faithfully from biblical text to message, use sound hermeneutical principles, identify a sermon’s central idea and purpose, structure different types of sermons and communicate Scripture with clarity. The subject also explores the character and spiritual formation of the preacher, with an emphasis on Word-centred, Christ-centred and Spirit-empowered preaching.
Pastoral Leadership
Explore the biblical heart and practical responsibilities of pastoral leadership within the local church. Examine calling, character, servant leadership, spiritual formation, vision, shepherding, pastoral care and healthy leadership practice while developing the maturity, integrity and practical skills needed to lead and care for people well.
Mental Health

Learn to recognise signs of distress, communicate effectively, respond to changing needs and risk, maintain appropriate boundaries, and support person-centred recovery while understanding when referral or additional professional support is required.
The training also covers recovery-oriented practice, autonomy, communication, rights and culturally and spiritually respectful support.
Pastoral & Spiritual Care
Develop the skills to plan, provide and evaluate safe, ethical and person-centred pastoral and spiritual care. Learn how to build trust, listen effectively, respond to emotional and spiritual needs, maintain healthy boundaries and provide appropriate care through life transitions, crisis and challenging circumstances.
